Intercurrent: Walkman Antiquarian

Intercurrent present contemporary chamber music for piano, percussion, bass clarinet and electronics in Walkman Antiquarian. Intercurrent is Lachlan Skipworth, Louise Devenish, Ashley Smith and Emily Green Armytage with guest artist Jackson Vickery. The program includes renowned works by Thomas Meadowcroft and John Cage, and new works by Natalie Williams and Perth composer Olivia Davies.

Walkman Antiquarian challenges our concept of obsolescence, exploring creative possibilities in the intersection of new and old. Thomas Meadowcroft’s centrepiece work employs much-loved but increasingly historical technologies of sound playback the turntable and the walkman, while John Cage’s Credo in US prominently features the humble transistor radio. Against these are set a modern-day interpretation of 12th Century polyphonist Perotin’s Beata Viscera, and world premieres by Australian composers Natalie Williams and Olivia Davies. Intercurrent’s renowned and fiery virtuosity promise a unique and stimulating musical adventure.

Co-presented with the UWA Conservatorium of Music.

Kaboom Percussion: Summer School 2019

The Kaboom Percussion Summer School is the perfect way to kick off your year! Studying with two of Perth’s most dynamic and engaging young professional percussionists, this three-day experience will be engaging, challenging, and of course fun!

Students will work closely with Kaboom Percussion as they learn, rehearse, and perform on a wide range of percussion instruments in fun and exciting new pieces composed by Kaboom. The Summer School is the perfect way to develop skills in ensemble playing and across a range of instruments whilst working closely with professional percussionists, as well as top percussionists from other schools.

We will also be joined by our great friend and marimba superstar Robert Oetomo! Rob is coming all the way from Sydney to be with us for all three days of Summer School and we are very excited to once again be working with such a friendly and talented percussionist.
